Candy Cane Chain Border

I’ve had many people ask me recently about the border I put on my Snoopy blanket.  It is the same border I put on the Star of Life blanket I made a little over a year ago. I’ve had these directions for so long, I can no longer remember when or where I first found them. As soon as I get a chance, I’ll add some images to go along with these directions.

Candy cane border instructions:

For purpose of instructions, Color A will be RED, and COLOR B will be white. Any two colors you choose can be used. NOTATION AT THE END FOR WORKING 3 COLORS

  1. Attach RED with slst in any corner. Ch4, leave loop long enough to pick up again, and remove hook from last ch.
  2. With WHITE, skip one stitch next to where RED was attached. Attach WHITE with slst, then ch4. Remove hook from last ch (leave loop to pick up again).
  3. Place your hook back into the loop at the end of RED ch. Working in front, skip one stitch next to WHITE, slst into next st, ch4, leave loop and remove hook from last ch.
  4. Place your hook back into the WHITE ch. Working in front, skip one stitch next to the red, slst, ch4, remove hook from last ch.

Keep repeating 3 and 4 all the way around. In the corners do one sc of each color, no additional chain stitches needed.

*There should be one skipped stitch between each sc.* The two separate strands will twist together, every three or four stiches untwist before it becomes a huge tangled mess.

NOTE: To adjust and work this with 3 colors, simply change the ch 4 to ch 6, and attach a third color after 1 skipped space past where the second color was added. Corners are a bit trickier, so work with it, play around until you get it how you like it on the corners.
