Seven Crocheted Dolls

These are dolls I’ve made so far. Five were for my granddaughters, one for my sister-in-law, and one for my step-daughter. These are paid patterns found on Etsy. This woman’s patterns are awesome! I just love them, and I want them all! LOL

I have been asked if I would consider making these on commissioned sales. I considered it, and I rejected it. I do love these dolls, but they are a LOT of work! No one ever wants to pay what the cost would actually be. When you factor in cost of material and time spent, multiplied by a measly $3.50 per hour (a fraction of minimum wage!!), the cost would be more than anyone thinks is reasonable. Here, let’s do some simple math….

  • Materials – $80
  • Hours spent – 80
  • Labor – $3.50 per hour (WAY below minimum wage!!)
  • Mark up – total of above, multiplied by 1.4

So…

  • 80 hours × $3.50/hr = $280
  • $280 + $80 = $360
  • $360 × 1.4 = $504 USD

Now do you see why I don’t work on commission for the dolls? These are just special things I make for my granddaughters and other family. These are works from the heart, and no amount of money could compensate for the love and care I put into making them.
